That title was deliberate bad grammar/spelling on my part, but it’s a common phrase on the web. I was thisclose to purchasing Matt’s laptop from Circuit City. I applied for their Chase-sponsored financing which claimed to be able to give immediate decisions on whether or not one was approved. From the moment, I started applying for the card, I had a hunch that I would not be getting an instant decision. Sure enough, they told me I would find out within 30 days if I had the credit card. How did I suspect it would come to this? Well, on the application were questions like how long I had lived at my current address. Clearly, I just moved here, but I suspect that was a red flag in their system. My credit score is good i.e. over 700 so I knew that I should theoretically have no problem getting approved. But here I was, in limbo. Out of frustration, I decided to go ahead to HP and see if I would qualify for their e-financing program. Sure enough, I did and I got my laptop with 90 days without interest. Of course, I intend on paying the laptop off within that no-interest period. lol. Heck, I might even end up getting M’s laptop via the HP website using their HSBC-sponsored credit card.
In other news, I got to see my nephew, little B. π He brings a big smile to my face whenever I see him and I got to feed him while his dad & mom took a mini-break. Parenthood can be very intense/stressful, but it all melts away when you watch your little cherub sleep. He’s grown up to 10lbs and some. He’s definitely going to be a tall kid because it’s in both his parents’ genes and he looks long. I give J & J big kudos for hanging in there and being stronger than ever in their love. They are really an inspiration and a joy to watch. That said, I am biased because they keep M & I spoiled & supplied with fresh garden produce. lol. What can I say? I’m easily bought. π I missed out on seeing M’s mom who came down to visit J & J. I did manage to speak with her so it was nice to catch up with her. M’s dad’s doing pretty well and we didn’t go to church on Saturday like we have made it a habit of doing. We played hooky and dad, it was all my fault. lol. It was the tax-free weekend and we both decided to hit up half the electronics stores (I’m serious: circuit city, best buy, office max, office depot, target, sears, etc) in our little town to see if there were great deals. I really enjoy hanging out with him and I am looking forward to our next Saturday rendezvous.
In other news, I wrote earlier that I had finally opened up my Roth IRA. Well, I made my first deposit back in July and since then, nothing has happened. I got a case of overload-itis where I was stricken with fear and doubt about the vagaries of the stock market, etc. Granted, unless I got nuts and invest 100% in stocks, the chances are that I stand to get a least a modest percentage of return if I pick a balanced portfolio. That said, I need to take advantage of the complimentary portfolio review and talk to an agent. I can’t do it on my own and if there is some astronomical fee to talk to a human being, I may have to become very close friends with textbooks at the library. That is what I’m trying to avoid, but clearly I need to be knowledgeable about my money. From now on, my motto will be: “To Learning”. lol. Savings will be on autopilot for the next 2 months. Why? I am intent on paying off the laptop in less than 3 months which means less money will be going into the savings account. However, I am still committing to my monthly IRA contributions and my monthly savings account payments. Thanks to my little increased cash flow via my new job, I will end up being cash positive after taking out my laptop payment. In the same vein, the SunTrust credit card has seen a little bit of activity. Boo to M & I for that. However, it is nothing that cannot be remedied with snowflakes that will be coming in from my super-secret enrollment in a survey and some payments that M will be making. I am looking forward to seeing that balance drop down to below $500. π It’s so close I can taste it.
