Tinkering with WordPress themes

Okay, here’s the deal. My landlord’s a guru at graphic design. He’s taught me a few tips and tricks of working with Photoshop. I obtained a copy of Photoshop CS and it’s been lying pretty much unused on my computer. However, I got the chance to test it out when I downloaded this current theme. It came with a logo.psd file that I knew was editable. I just didn’t know how to do it. Then, I called in the big guns a.k.a. Paul (the landlord and friend). He showed me how it was a simple matter of removing/hiding unwanted layers and creating new layers. That’s how I was able to alter the logo to read my name and my site’s title. Then, I decided to do another logo in the same style as this current one albeit with a different color scheme. Check out my results:

I’ve obviously got a long way to go, but with Paul by my side, the ride won’t be so rough. πŸ™‚ In the meantime, Paul and I will be attending some workship at the Holiday Inn Express in downtown Athens on how to make money via the web! He got a complimentary pass for another person so he figured since I’m on the pc so much, I’d be better off attending this seminar. We’ll be getting free food and a free planner. So, stay tuned. Also, Matt got 2 very important things taken care of today i.e. his updated e.v.l. and squared out some 401(k) stuff. So, my plan is to get maximum rest tomorrow and be ready for our big day.

So, I attended a job interview last week and received a request for things like my references, transcripts, etc. This hasn’t happened for me before (and I’ve attend 3 interviews prior to this one). I liked the environment and my interviewer was laidback, but insightful. We talked for a good bit (~ 1hr long interview) and then, I went to see the laboratory. I’m excited about the prospect of possibly being hired. This will be my first real job since I got done with school and whatnots. Please put me in your prayers for this job and for another big event coming up pretty soon.

My experience with the band, Pelican.

Artist/performer: Pelican
Price: $10
Begins: Wed, 01 Aug 2007 at 11:30 PM
Ends: Wed, 01 Aug 2007 at 1:30 PM

Location: 285 W Washington Street, Athens GA 30601

This band (Pelican) simply rocks! First of all, they don’t have a singer/lyricist. They make the music with their instruments consisting of a bass player, a drummer and two other guitar players. As you may or may not know, my husband is Caucasian and I’m Nigerian. We went downtown to a part of the city and to a club where my kind isn’t frequently seen. This place was the 40 Watt club and I’ve actually been there before with Matt (to see The Melvins). As expected, I had to wear earplugs, but I could hear fine although Matt kept mothering me. πŸ™‚ There was about ~25 people in the club by Matt’s estimate and still, in his words, “they played their heart(s) out” Their sound is nothing like I’ve heard before and I’m frankly speaking. If their songs could have lyrics, they’d be almost melancholy. Matt pegs their styles as “emotional, dramatic and heavy.” He took the words right out of my mouth. They’ve got a hectic tour schedule so go listen to them while they’re in the US. Or check out their Myspace page for samples.

Going to church

For the hell of it, I’ve created an event i.e. going to a Baptist church with my friends, P and J. I’ll hopefully go to lunch afterwards or I suspect I’ll be too tuckered out to do much. I stayed up till 5.35am reading a book by Ken Follett called “A Place called Freedom”. To say it moved me is saying the least. The fact that I refused to sleep till I’d consumed the whole book should tell you something. Go check the book out from your local library, now! The next book I’ll be feasting my eyes on is a book by a renowned ethnobiologist from Harvard who teased out the ingredients in Haitian voodoo that caused the phenomenon of zombie-ism. I can’t remember the title of the book right now, but it’s a must read for those who poo-poo the occult.

Simply blown away!

Holy crap! WPG2 is working with my WordPress installation!! I’m so thrilled. After much googling, I decided to post to the WPG2 forum with my problem and none other than the developer (ozgreg) responded to my posts with really helpful information. I didn’t have to do any “hacking” (as if I could). I’m as pleased as a bee and thus far, insertion of images into my posts works like a charm. This plugin is one that being developed constantly so that I know it won’t go the route of the coppermine gallery plugin that I used to use (when I was still with Coppermine). This rocks and I’ll tinker with me it some. Meanwhile, enjoy some cool shots after the jump.

We are a fraudulent people.

Well, a lot of us. I am thoroughly nauseated at the collective mindset of people. I’m getting reacquainted with NBC’s Dateline and right, watching an episode called “To Catch an i-Jacker“. This means they’re tracking (and hopefully catching) those people who nabbed ipods that were planted by the dateline crew. They use a bunch of scenarios like leaving your ipod on a table at the food court, or leaving it in your car, etc. It’s absolutely disheartening the way people just took these gadgets without a scintilla of hesitation. The most infuriating thing for me is the smugness of the crazy teens who did a lot of the pickings. It made me almost wish that they would’ve gotten charged with crimes because they would be the sort of people who would get away with murder if they knew they could get away with it! What disgusted me a lot more was how either a man or woman (who is part of a couple) would take the ipod and not a word of protest or even an argument from the other party. I’m not going to pretend to have the cleanest hands, but I know that Matt is one of the most scrupulous people I know. If I had the thought, he would look at me like I’ve grown two heads and lecture me (lovingly. :)) on the error of my ways. The thieves range from teenagers, college kids to old married couples! I particularly laughed at the college kid’s (a sophomore) explanation of how she had gotten shafted before. Ergo, she needed to even the score. Also, she said she didn’t know that they could be tracked or else she wouldn’t have done it. See what I meant about getting away with murder?! Now, the way Dateline was able to track the people down was through their voluntary registration of the product via iTunes or online. After this episode, I’m sure that people are finding ways to not register ipods to prevent being found out. I have never owned an iPod and will not because of the same reason I’ll never own a Mac. Overpriced pieces of turd. It’s like buying name brand clothing and regular clothing without any appreciable difference in quality. I’ll stick with my tried-and-true alternatives: Windows, Creative, etc. Please check out the video and leave your comments.

Slightly frustrated

Okay, I would like to integrate my Gallery with WordPress and there’s a plugin for it. However, because I installed Gallery2 and WordPress on different databases, I’m essentially stuck. Grrrh. Well, thank God for Weird Al Yankovic at times like this! πŸ™‚ I’ve been a fan of his numerous parodies. One of my favorites is “I’ll Sue Ya” which is a none too subtle dig at the litigious nature of the American society. [myspace 1672853857]
