I ‘traditionally’ think of stress as a thing to avoid but this article from the Harvard Business review has challenged me to re-frame my thought on this. There are a lot of salient points in the article but these jumped out at me (as a chronic ‘worrier’):
- Being able to separate out what you can and cannot control is essential.
- Be aware of your habits and instinctual responses and possibly seek additional support to build skills to more comfortably navigate conflict.
- choose to see difficult circumstances as learning opportunities rather than as a time to shut down. When we ask “What can I learn from this?” instead of “Why me?” we can shape the challenge to our advantage.
- analysis without action leads to rumination and anxiety
I suspect I’ll be printing this document out as a daily reminder!
