Celebrations!

Last semester was long and rough but I’m happy to report it’s done.

Grades were near perfect! Of course, the one class I took for “fun” was the only fly in the perfect 4.0 ointment. Ah well. 🙂

Anyway, ’tis Christmas day, twitches!! Actually, it’s the second day of 2014. Clearly, I’ve been sitting on this post for a while and just now getting around to publish. Sue me. 🙂

For those around family, enjoy the ritual and tradition. For those not around family, grab a cup of hot cocoa, someone you love and curl up to a good book or a Crime show like Matt & I love to do. For those struggling at times like this, I get it. I wish I could hug you but in lieu of that, if you need someone to talk to, here’s my number (7066216197). I just got up from a long 3 hour nap and I’m planning on going to bed early. Where do I go from here? Well, for starters, I am officially done with my CS curriculum and my next semester will be my first CS-less semester.

For the first time in my school career, I can’t say I’m a full-time student anymore. That’s great news for my wallet because I will be working more for the company I’ll be starting my coding career with. It’s a little sad because some things I wanted to try out are limited to full-time student. Nevertheless, I’m excited about having a little more free time to work on things that actually interest me.

Right now, I’ve stagnated a bit. Work on CoursePicker feels a bit tedious/boring and many of the enhancements that I can think of feel like “busy work”. For the uninitiated, CoursePicker is a web application that lets UGA students craft the perfect class schedule. It’s actually usable right now, but I don’t know how it will hold up if I suddenly receive a surge of visitors. Worse, I suspect I would be screwed if I did get a surge of traffic because I have no way of handling it. Eeek! Anyway, point is: I’m itching for something new and challenging. Yeah, I’ll be working almost fulltime hours but I’ve reached out to a small student-run “startup” and I’ll see if they allow me to assist in their vision. 🙂

This year, I don’t have any grandiose resolutions; I just have things that I’d like to do.

  • I want to be a better person than I was last year.
  • I do want more arts in my life and I’m kicking that of by taking ruthless advantage of the UGA student discount for random performances. 🙂
  • I want to be a contributing member of the Athens, GA community so I hope to attend more meetups and connect with the Software Developer community in Athens. I’ve become somewhat of a recluse and I think it’s time to let a little light in.
