Cornucopia

Welcome to my little wellspring of information. The data presented to you here is in the process of being verified, but since this is just a hobby of mine, it will not be top priority on my list. You may wish to do the verification on your own. Anyway, be my guest. All the facts and figures that are presented are not necessarily up to date. I am in the process of finding out sources to back up what I have presented to you. Try to verify this information. The data presented was collected over a period of 6 years and it was not as if I dedicated every day of those years to do this. I got almost all of my information from dictionaries (old dictionaries if I might add), chewing gum wrappers, the newspapers (Sunday Punch in Nigeria), magazines (e.g. National Geographic), books (Student Companion etc), novels (especially especially the Mills and Boon variety), a bible, an encyclopedia of American history and as I remember, I shall add my sources.

Truthfully speaking, I started keeping these little factoids when I was about 12 years of age. It all started with friendly rivalry in academics and progressed to what you are about to view now. I have perused lexicons, bubble gum wraps, newspapers, footnotes in novels in search for these tidbits. Nevertheless, despite how unorthodox my methods have been, the authenticity of these data should not be in question. For now, I have just been able to take the liberty and time to ‘google’ and ‘confirm’ the information in my page on the Roman Empire. In due course, I shall try to verify the information contained in the rest of my pages.

With respect to the Cuisine link, I got quite a bit of information out of my Student Companion handbook. It is sold in Nigeria and I am not aware if it is being sold elsewhere. Some of the dishes I came up with came from the novels I read. A lot of the authors I read liked writing about the meals the main characters gorged on. Quite a few of the meals came out of dictionaries and I honestly can’t remember which dictionaries I used. However, I’m certain that I didn’t use either the Oxford or Merriam-Webster dictionaries. Nearly all of the drinks came out of the three dictionaries that I used and then, some came from my romance novels. All the stuff in the Science and Random Science page came out of a big old dictionary that I used to ‘stalk’ where I used to go for summer lessons. All the stuff in the Ingredients page came straight out of the Sunday Punch Newspaper in Nigeria. In the Dancing page, I got a lot of the dances from the dictionaries also and novels.
