In other news….:)

I’m having some trouble with the computer at work. At first, I thought it was a Jumpline issue i.e. they were somehow blocking me. Accordingly, I emailed Technical support and the rep. said he was able to upload a file to my account. WTF? Well, I tried uploading some files on my computer this time around. Guess what? It still didn’t let me upload even though I’ve been able to login to my FTP account fine. It just lets me view the files, but not upload or download. So, I started wondering if it was a Filezilla issue. Highly doubtful, but I logged into my account using a different utility (SSH’s Secure File Transfer Protocol). And voila!! I finally able to upload the darned files. Now, I’m not smart enough to troubleshoot to figure out the problem. I’m just glad to be able to upload/download from my account again.

The story doesn’t end with FTP malfunctioning. My Palm Wireless headset (Bluetooth) stopped functioning. If it were a TV antenna, I’d say that the antenna got fried or something. It was lighting up i.e. it could power on and off. I just couldn’t get it to talk with my Palm Treo. Well, for the amount of money I spent over it ($49.95), I didn’t feel like wrangling and called the nice folks at Treocentral Store. The representative I talked to was understanding and I definitely foresee myself patronizing them. They have a solid 30-day back guarantee and I’m just thankful that the wireless headset chose to conk out within this window wherein they’ll fully refund your money back or you can get a replacement of equal or lesser value. I got over over 3 weeks ago and I’ve used it less than 10 times. I can’t get into the spirit of something dragging my ear down. And the sad thing for me was I thought that I would be able to listen to my music via this headset. Not so. It’s only good for making calls. Well, I did the easiest thing for me and my mental health at this stage i.e. a no fuss returns. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the refund process will go smoothly.

The Bank of America issue has unsurprisingly ended on a whimpering note. The “good folks” at the Bank simply issued me a new check without even documenting their “research” efforts to figure out what got screwed up and how to prevent it from happening. Meanwhile, I spoke with a nice rep. from Wachovia who didn’t fuss about refunding the $20 in fees I incurred due to this mess. However, Wachovia turned around and bit me in the butt. Apparently, I get 2 free calls per statement period. After that, I can’t call the 1 800 WACHOVIA number for free i.e. it costs $2 per call. Now, I’ll tell you the honest truth: They. Told. Me. No. Such. Thing. I opened this account in 2005 and I don’t recall receiving any such notification. That aside, I only called them so much in November because of the bounced check issue. I don’t enjoy chatting with representatives on the phone because it’s fun. I call when I have serious issues. Anyway, I called up the representatives to ask what the charge was about and I requested that they refund the money (a grand total of $8) to my account. The first representative hemmed-and-hawwed when I stated my case for why the money should be refunded. The way she was saying she “needed to look into the case”, you would think we were talking about $100. I got less grief from the lady who refunded the $20. Her final judgement was that she could only give me $4 out of the $8. I got a little upset and told her that I needed to talk to someone else about it i.e. code for escalating the issue. Then, she placed me on hold. As sure as Heaven is real, she hung up on me. I called back and requested to speak with a Wachovia rep. For the first time since I’ve ever called Wachovia customer care, the representative told me about the $2 fee. Per my conversation with the first rep., I was told to request that the fee be waived and I did so. The rep. granted my request and we started talking. This representative actually offered to refund a whopping $2 out of the $8. Can I make that a Hell No?. I argued with her and she finally agreed to refund the $8 to me. As of this moment, I’m in the market for another bank that does not love levy all sorts of crazy fees against you. I’m just tired of them treating me like crap and I would welcome recommendations. After 2 years of banking with them, I’m about done.
